More than a list of dates

Tongshu belongs to the Chinese almanac tradition; you may also encounter the name Huangli. Alongside calendar information, it presents traditional recommendations for particular activities. A daily entry can bring together a lunar date, a heavenly stem, an earthly branch and lists of suggested and avoided actions. These are distinct layers: calculating a date is different from interpreting it through tradition.

A thoughtful way to use it today

The almanac offers a way to explore cultural approaches to time and reflect on everyday plans. Start with a specific activity, such as travelling or moving home, then check its entry. A day described as favourable is not necessarily favourable for every purpose. Traditional recommendations do not guarantee outcomes or replace practical considerations such as availability, preparation and personal circumstances.

About this Tongshu calendar

This website lets you explore dates from 1930 to 2030 in eight languages. Daily entries come from lunar-javascript version 1.7.7. You can reveal the original Chinese activity names to compare the translation with its source terms. Different almanac editions may give different recommendations, so this website represents its stated data source rather than a single universal version of every Tongshu tradition.
